Karen is a Client Solutions Director at Global Knowledge Canada. Karen Burpee has nearly two decades of experience designing innovative learning solutions to drive performance improvement in the workplace. Her extensive design experience touches many different industry sectors, including government, oil and gas, automotive, tech/telco and defence/aerospace; working with clients across Canada and the United States. She has significant experience in learning strategy and designing blended solutions, including e-Learning, blended learning, game-based learning, mobile learning and performance support, advanced simulations and 3D interactions.
Karen has presented at many industry conferences on instructional game design, serious games, and mobile learning. In 2011 and 2012, she was a judge for the Serious Games Showcase and Challenge; a series of awards recognizing excellence in game design hosted by the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC). Karen has previously presented practical design considerations for transitioning from eLearning to mLearning at CSTD chapter events in both Vancouver and Ottawa. Most recently, Karen presented a session on social learning and the changing role of the instructional designer at DevLearn, North America’s largest training and development conference in Las Vegas. In 2016, Karen was awarded the President’s Circle Award from Global Knowledge Canada for Excellence in Customer Service, in recognition of outstanding performance.
Karen holds a BA (Hons.) from St. Thomas University, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Master’s of Education in Instructional Design from the University of New Brunswick.
In 2016, Karen joined the Board of Directors for Families Canada (formerly FRP Canada) as an Ottawa-based Board member, in support of the forthcoming Virtual Institute. Karen has previously volunteered with Junior Achievement, CIBC Run for the Cure, and the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival in Fredericton, NB
