National Family Week: Connected Families, Connected Communities
Since 1985 Canadians in communities across the country have come together in October for National Family Week. The week provides an opportunity to celebrate families and reflect on their importance in our lives. Since 2007, Families Canada has coordinated National Family Week.
This year, National Family Week is October 4-10, 2021 and the theme is “Connected Families, Connected Communities”. There has been a lot of uncertainty during the pandemic, but one thing is clear— staying connected to our families and communities is crucial. Whether in person or online, staying connected means healthier families and more vibrant communities.
During the pandemic, families across the globe have experienced an unprecedented amount of change. Nearly every aspect of our lives has been affected—and yet, we have found ways to carry on. Our children are still growing up, our friends and neighbours are still important fixtures in our lives, and those who are able are returning to work.
Many families are navigating this pandemic and staying connected with the help of family support centres.
Family support centres come in all shapes and sizes, but you would be hard-pressed to find a community that doesn’t have at least one. From our biggest cities down south to our smallest communities up north, these centres offer free services, programs, and resources to all. They are often the cornerstone of communities. Their services are tailored to the needs of their community, but they all have one thing in common: supporting families with young children.
This National Family Week, we thank everyone who has helped keep families and communities connected. We encourage you to share your tips for staying connected on social media, using the hashtag #CNFW2021.
Happy National Family Week.
